If you're concerned about the recent measles outbreak that has been reported in several parts of the country, you should know that there's a confirmed case in Missouri and there was possible exposure at the train station in Sedalia recently.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services issued a bulletin just a few days ago that says a resident of the state known to have a confirmed case of the measles boarded a train in Sedalia that was bound for Chicago. Here's what we know:

  • It was Train 318
  • The train was bound for Chicago
  • This Missouri resident with the measles boarded this train on August 27, 2026

What should you do if you were potentially exposed to the measles at the Sedalia, Missouri train station?

It's important to know that you need to watch for symptoms of measles for 21 days from the date of exposure. That means if you don't have measles symptoms by this upcoming weekend, you're likely in the clear.

What are the symptoms of the measles?

  • High fever that can spike above 104
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Tiny white spots forming inside the mouth
  • Flat, red spots appear near the hairline
  • Rash that moves down from the neck to the feet

If you believe that you might have the measles, you need to contact your local Missouri health department. The measles are highly contagious and especially dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children and serious complications have been known to develop among young children.
