There is a blast of cold air that will run into precipitation around Sunday, November 9, 2025. Ryan says that most of northern Illinois will see winter precipitation and Chicago specifically could see heavy snow. There's no mention of accumulation estimates yet, but the computer models are showing that Illinois will get its first taste of winter weather as early as this coming weekend. This map shows the total snowfall amounts expected between now and November 11, 2025.

Let's add the usual disclaimer that this outlook is still many days out which means variables and timing can and likely will change. That being said, you would be wise to be prepared for dealing with winter precipitation by early next week at the latest if you live in northern Illinois.
