I am a sucker for trains. Have always loved the big iron horses and always will. That's why when I learned about the Arkansas Missouri Railroad, I knew I had to find if it's still active. Good news. It is. The official website says that if you ride with them, you'll be in "antique passenger or parlor coaches". That's the way to ride a train. Like it used to be during the now bygone era when everyone relied on this method of travel.

The trip from Monett, Missouri to Fort Smith, Arkansas is a scenic one. If you're familiar with northwestern Arkansas, you know the mountains and hills there are special. This bridge in particular is spectacular.

Overall, it's a 150 mile route that is unlike just about any other experience you can have in our part of America. The Arkansas Missouri Railroad website has specifics about the trips and schedules they offer. For me, this is about as good as it gets for some good ole Americana. We will never see an era of transportation like this again, but it's excellent that railroads like this continue to offer the experience.
