Have you ever read a report and immediately thought "be wrong"? That was my immediate reaction to a report from a jobs site in Illinois that says a mass layoff of more than 1,000 just happened in Illinois.

One of the newest WARN notices submitted to the Illinois Work Net website shows one of the biggest layoffs of 2025 just occurred. It states that Inter-Con Security Systems, Inc. in Chicago is closing that location and 1,058 workers will be laid off. The reason given is plant closure.

The Layoff also confirmed this mass Illinois layoff on X/Twitter.

The Inter-Con website shows they have locations around the world and have 35,000 workers. What's interesting is they just shared a press release in late February showing they had just obtained a huge contract with General Motors. That makes me wonder if this layoff is really a restructuring to prepare for that project.

I've reached out to the company for more information and clarification about what this reported layoff means to those employed by them in Chicago. Let's hope this is really good news and not a massive job loss.
