Many in Missouri have seen strange lights in the sky. That's so frequent, it's practically normal. However, a man who lives in a rural part of Missouri claims he saw a bizarre rectangle of light appear over a nearby tree line and he has photos to prove it.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center, this encounter happened near Rayville, Missouri the night of May 1, 2025. Here are his exact words from the NUFORC report:

"I walked outside and saw this very bright light. It was not the moon. It seemed rectangular or spherical. It didn't move either"

He goes on to say that the object eventually got dimmer until he could no longer see it. He added that he lives in a rural area with little to no city lighting that could explain what he witnessed. He shared two pictures which you can see here and here. He's not kidding about living in a rural area. This is where Rayville, Missouri is located. It's to the northeast of the Kansas City area and due east from Excelsior Springs.

I asked my wife the meteorologist if she knew of any atmospheric phenomena that could be what this man witnessed. My initial thought was that what looks like a rectangle of light might be light pillars, but she said his photos don't seem to show that. The fact that it didn't move and just faded from view is odd and that's the same word used by the NUFORC team to describe this report.
