One of the strongest solar storms in recent memory has arrived early resulting in a remarkable display of colorful dancing lights over Missouri.

I shared the word earlier today that NOAA's Storm Prediction Center had issued an extreme solar storm watch. Their space weather forecast said that Wednesday, November 12 would be the most likely time to see the Northern Lights as far south as Missouri. Well, they have arrived early and here are some pictures that my wife captured outside tonight.

Here's about a minute of real-time video of what we saw overhead in Missouri tonight.

By the way, we should get a repeat performance of the Northern Lights over Missouri Wednesday night, too. The forecasts still call for the Aurora Borealis to be visible very far south tomorrow night also.
