I don't mind sharing new information about New Madrid Fault quakes when there's no rebuilding necessary afterward. That was the case very early Sunday morning, but it was the 7th largest tremor in southern Missouri for 2025 and was reported felt by many.

Here are the largest quakes of 2025 for the New Madrid Seismic Zone in southern Missouri (the highlighted one just happened Sunday)

The USGS has confirmed that a 2.7 magnitude quake was felt in southern Missouri at 12:49am early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025. Even in the middle of the night, there were many who reported feeling the quake to the USGS after it was reviewed by their seismologists.

If you look at all of the 2025 earthquakes in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, you'll see Sunday's quake (highlighted in blue) happened in the just to the east of the boot heel of Missouri which is where the majority of minor New Madrid quakes happen.

It is very good news that one of 2025's strongest quakes felt in Missouri was merely a 2.7 magnitude quake. That's strong enough to feel if you're located close enough to the epicenter, but not enough to even knock a dish off of a counter. While it's always good to pay attention to what the New Madrid Fault is up to, there's no reason to believe that this quake is a predecessor to a larger event - yet. We can count on that major New Madrid quake happening at some point in the next 50 years, but that's not today (or so I hope).
