Talk about an unwelcome and dangerous surprise. Many in Missouri who have recently purchased wine have now received a letter warning them that the bottles in their possession are now in danger of exploding on their own.

I saw this alarming report just shared by Cheapism. It involves a recall being done by Costco involving wine bottles that they say were sold in Missouri and several other states. Here's a photo of the letter that many have been receiving from Costco about what wine bottles they should be concerned about:

In case you're having difficulty reading their letter on your device, the wine in question that was sold in Missouri is Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene. Costco says that unopened wine bottles are in danger of shattering on their own even when they are in use. They add that if you have these wine bottles, you should NOT return them to a store, but instead dispose of them after wrapping them in paper towels and placing them in plastic bags to avoid the risk from shattered glass. That means crews that pick up trash could be at risk if they are not disposed of in the proper way. They do not mention the reason why the bottles are being compromised.

The product recall mentions that this wine was also sold in Illinois stores, too. You can check out the Costco recall letter for more details about this odd wine bottle situation.
