A school bus operator has notified the state of Missouri that 107 jobs would be eliminated after a loss of contract with a school district.

This new bulletin from the Missouri Jobs site says that Durham School Services has issued a WARN notice letting the state authorities know that 107 workers would be jobless effective June 5, 2026. The WARN notice shared by the state of Missouri says a contract with the Northwest R-1 School District will not be renewed.

"As a result, we will conduct employee separations in connection with the cessation of our operations based at 4260 Gravois Rd., House Springs, MO 63051.This action is expected to permanently eliminate about 107 positions-3 salaried, 5 full-time hourly, and 99 parttime hourly positions."

The company says they have notified the affected employees verbally and in writing. They go on to say that "some of the affected employees are represented by a union, Teamsters Local 610". The notice also adds that some drivers may be allowed to continue for summer routes and be released at a later date.

As this is a developing story, more details will be added when/if they are released by the school district and the transportation company. This new mass layoff brings the total in Missouri laid off to 1,291 for 2026 so far.
