Black Sheep Egg Company was the first to issue a recall notice on cartons of 12 and 18-count eggs when it was learned there was a connection to cases of salmonella. They were distributed in Missouri and also Arkansas between July 9, 2025, to September 17, 2025 and authorities believe there are many cartons in people's homes right now. They have best by dates of 8/22/2025 through 10/31/2025 and include UPC product codes of 860010568507 and 860010568538. During an investigation of Black Sheep Egg Company by the FDA, they found "40 environmental samples were positive for Salmonella including seven different strains of Salmonella."

What's so dangerous about salmonella?

As the Mayo Clinic mentions, salmonella can cause severe dehydration because of diarrhea and it can become life-threatening if the infection moves beyond the intestines. It's when salmonella moves into the bloodstream and travels to other parts of the body that it can become a life and death situation. That's why the FDA urges anyone that has Black Sheep Egg Company eggs to not consume them. They should be discarded or returned to the place they were purchased if at all possible.
