8 Inches of Rain Slam Missouri with More on the Way
It's not unexpected that some parts of Missouri have gotten a lot of rain so far this weekend, but the totals are a bit staggering. There are places in the state that have already been slammed by up to 8 inches of rain and there's more on the way, too.
A few days ago, I shared an advisory from the Storm Prediction Center that parts of Missouri could see up to 8 inches of rain. That was for the entire weekend. Guess what? According to what the National Weather Service in Springfield, Missouri has shared, some pockets in the state have already received that amount.
That Missouri forecasting office says that more rainfall is on the way which could mean several more inches of rain on top of what's already fallen. This map shows the additional amounts that are expected.
All of this rain has resulted in many flash flood events on some small Missouri creeks and rivers. A radar shared by Iowa State University shows the locations of flash flooding. The wave graphics are the places where that's happened.
As of the date of this writing, there are still a couple of days remaining in Memorial Day weekend. We'll see what the Missouri rainfall totals are once it's done for the southwestern parts of the state that continue to see rain.
