Missouri Police Share Scary Numbers Ahead of New Year’s Holiday
If you need some motivation to use caution when driving during the upcoming New Year's holiday, I found some. It's scary numbers shared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol showing how perilous this time of year can be for drivers.
In a press release just shared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, they reminded us of what happened during the New Year's holiday reporting period last year including these frightening statistics:
- 9 people were killed
- 293 injured
- 821 traffic crashes in Missouri
Keep in mind that all of these accidents and fatalities happened during a 32 hour period from 6pm on December 31 through midnight on January 1, 2024.
This year's New Year's holiday could be even more challenging as rain is forecast to be happening across nearly all of the state during that time resulting in less visibility and slicker roadways.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds everyone about their emergency contact numbers which are "(800) 525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone if you witness criminal activity or experience an emergency".
Those that will choose to consume alcohol on New Year's Eve are reminded to assign a non-drinking designated driver or arrange for someone else to drive them to where they need to be. That's one way to lessen the likelihood of becoming a tragic statistic during this year's New Year's celebration time.
