Computer Models Flag Major Weather Event for Missouri
Watch out for the end of the first full week of January. Multiple computer model runs are showing a potential major weather event may be targeting Missouri.
My wife (the meteorologist and smart one in our relationship) follows SEMO Weather with AJ on Facebook. She noticed a share this week where this southeast Missouri weather page was flagging what a computer model shows for approximately January 9 or January 10, 2026. If this came true, parts of Missouri would be slammed with multiple inches of ICE.
Before I share more, a word of warning. Weather computer models become less accurate the further out you are from the day you're looking at. That being said, I checked the same GFS model run today via Pivotal Weather and noticed a somewhat similar weather system impacting Missouri around January 9/January 10.
This model is showing a line of severe thunderstorms crossing Missouri minus the ice, but it's important to note several things. First, there's the uncertainy of computer model runs this far away from the date. Second, this system could bring severe thunderstorms or snow and ice depending on how far south that cold front impacts. Do NOT make or adjust any plans based on computer model runs. You should only follow official National Weather Forecasts for that, but you should keep a wary on on the weather about 10 days into 2026 as there is potential for a major storm event across Missouri. Key word is "potential". Definitely not certain, but worth keeping an eye on.
