I sincerely hope this is not the first of many closures from Gamestop that we hear about this year. A new list shows that the company has just closed the doors permanently on more locations in both Missouri and Illinois.

There have been so many Gamestop stores close recently that there is now a website devoted to just those closures. They have just added more store closings in both Missouri and Illinois. Here are the latest video game stores to close their doors for good.

Store # 3329 - Lake St. Louis, MO - Shoppes @ Hawk Ridge, 6285 Ronald Reagan Dr.

These two locations are now added to the 19 Illinois Gamestop stores that were closed a month ago and another 4 in Missouri that were shuttered.

Why has Gamestop closed so many Missouri and Illinois stores?

It's a complicated answer and I don't speak for the company, but I do know that most games are now purchased digitally and downloaded directly to video game consoles and computers without the need for physical disks or other game media. Gamestop recently converted some stores to focus on retro systems that do require those physical games, but there's no report on whether that approach will save the company.

I still hope that Gamestop can survive this current retail landscape and survive. It's great to have a real person to go ask questions to when you have a video game need or issue.
