NWS Warns Missouri & Illinois to Brace for Bitter Cold Temps Soon
We knew it was only a matter of time before temperatures in Missouri and Illinois start to feel more like winter. The National Weather Service now says we won't have to wait long as there is an expectation that both states will see temperatures plunge right after 2025 begins.
I saw this update today from the National Weather Service office in Illinois. It's a warning about the very mild temperatures we've been experiencing at the end of 2024 and what the trends and computer models now show for early in 2025.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri seems to agree that cold is on the way.
The good news is there are no indications of this change to bitter cold for the remainder of 2025 as highs all the way through the coming weekend are expected to remain in the 50's. It's interesting to note that there appears to be a wintry system potentially impacting Missouri and Illinois as early as the first weekend in January. It's much too early to look at specifics, but the weekend of January 6, 2025 looks interesting for snow possibilities for Missouri and Illinois.
I am waiting to share what I'm seeing about early January until we get closer to those dates as the models could be way off. It's still a valid expectation that this almost Spring-like weather will not stay with us once the calendar flips to 2025. Expect much colder weather and you likely will not be disappointed.
