Massive fish die-offs aren't unprecedented in Missouri, but it doesn't make it any less unsettling when suddenly you realize the water place near you is full of perished fish which is what just happened near Fredericktown.

KSDK in St. Louis just shared this disturbing find from Fredericktown where thousands of fish were found dead. The dead fish were found in Village Creek which is a tributary of the Little Saint Francis River.

According to the KSDK story, there is a suspicion that the fish kill could have been the result of chemicals used by firefighters to fight the recent fire from the battery factory explosion earlier this week. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has not yet confirmed if this is the cause of the fish die-off as of this writing.

The Missouri Independent is reporting that the Environmental Protection Agency is investigating the air in the region as residents have been told to shelter in place while they complete their tests.

It will be interesting to see what the authorities learn about the explosion at the battery factory in Missouri and how the environment around it is impacted. The likelihood that this fish kill is result seems very high at this point.
