There's a new outbreak of sickness that is connected to one of the most popular burgers in the world and it's now been confirmed in Missouri.

I first saw this reported on by CNBC confirming that there is a huge outbreak of E.coli which has been connected directly to Quarter Pounders from McDonalds and Missouri is now among the states reporting sickness from them. This has now been directly confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control.

McDonalds said in a statement that out of an abundance of caution, they are removing quarter pounders from their menu at Missouri restaurants as a precaution.

The CDC says there are, as of this writing, 49 cases of E.coli from this Quarter Pounder outbreak. E.coli can become serious among the following people:

  • Children younger than 5
  • Adults 65 and older
  • People with weakened immune systems

Symptoms can include diarrhea and medical help should be sought if that occurs in anyone that is extremely young, old or has a weakened immune system.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated if new cases are reported in Missouri.
