It's been a challenging year for many businesses and Missouri government jobs are being impacted, too. The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced they are eliminating more than 100 jobs.

I found this post on the Missouri sub-Reddit that I've also been able to confirm from many other media reports that the Missouri Department of Conservation has made big changes to their staff.

Based on the information shared, it appears that the 106 Missouri Department of Conservation workers who are being impacted by the job positions that have been eliminated are being given the opportunity to apply for other jobs within the department. If they are unsuccessful, they will be jobless by March of 2027.

How is the Missouri Department of Conservation funded?

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is primarily funded through a dedicated 1/8th of 1 percent state conservation sales tax, which accounts for the vast majority of its revenue. That's according to the Missouri Office of Administration. I have to wonder how this might be impacted by Missouri’s proposal to eliminate the state individual income tax. That phase-out is proposed to happen over the next 5 years if it's approved. Would that change help or hurt the Missouri Department of Conservation? We'll likely find out soon enough.
