Missouri Lake No Longer Most Dangerous in America, But It’s Close
Well, I've got good news and I've got bad news. A Missouri lake that has been considered the most dangerous in America for a very long time no longer holds that title. The bad news? It's still very close to the top.
As I shared last year, Lake of the Ozarks was named the most dangerous lake in America. Travel site Savoteur has some new data and a new ranking and fortunately you'll no longer find Lake of the Ozarks at the top of it. They now consider Lake Michigan as the most dangerous lake in America. Rip currents, sudden storms that seemingly appear out of nowhere and ice accidents seem to have brought it to the top of the dangerous lake rankings.
Lake Erie also makes an appearance at #6 on the new most dangerous lake list. Dangerous algae found there is the reason for its rise on this notorious chart.
It's not all good news for Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri though. You'll still find it at #9 among the most dangerous lake areas in America. If we're talking strictly fatal boating accidents, it's sadly still #1. Just look at the list on Lake Expo and you'll understand why.
Back to the good news outlook, KMIZ is reporting there were no fatal boating accidents over the Memorial Day weekend which is definitely worth celebrating.
The wild party reputation and almost constant reports of boaters speeding at Lake of the Ozarks means it's likely that you'll continue to see it mentioned whenever dangerous water places are ranked. If it's not at the top, it will sadly likely be near it. Still one of the most beautiful parts of Missouri.
