It was met with a shrug when it first came to theaters in 1946.

But, as the years passed, it became a classic, a must-see movie every holiday season.

It's where we learned that, "every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings."

It is "It's a Wonderful Life," and a radio adaptation of the timeless story is coming to KHMO Christmas Eve.

NewsTalk 1070, in partnership with the CBS Radio Network, the National Press Club, American Heritage Magazine and the James O'Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, present Marty Bufalini's "It's a Wonderful Life: The Radio Show," from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, December 24.

Just as in the movie, this radio play tells the story of George Bailey, who, exasperated by life's challenges, wishes he'd never been born. Granted his wish by his guardian angel, he learns the positive impact that each of our lives has on so many others.

The cast features 19 members of the National Press Club, covering 43 different roles.

The project was coordinated by the NPC as part of their commemoration of the centennial of radio.

Our thanks to the CBS Radio Network, the National Press Club, American Heritage Magazine, and especially to the James O'Donnell Funeral Home for helping to bring this special presentation to KHMO.

You can hear it on 1070 AM, our website and the KHMO mobile app.
