There is a growing threat of explosive supercell development over Missouri and Illinois early next week as meteorologists are saying even 'intense tornadoes' are a possibility.

Be warned this is not just one meteorologist's prediction or exaggerations from storm chasers. This is an official statement issued by forecasters at NOAA's Storm Prediction Center. They have just upgraded the threat expectations about what they think will develop over parts of Missouri and Illinois beginning Monday afternoon. This is their new map showing the probability of severe storms that day.

That has resulted in an upgrade also to their advisory areas with parts of Illinois and Missouri included in that, too.

Here are the exact words from the discussion from NOAA Storm Prediction Center meteorologists:

"Any supercells which can develop within this increasingly favorable environment Monday afternoon/evening will be capable of strong to intense tornadoes."

If this plays out like recent storms that have had this type of warning, you can expect multiple PDS tornado events which stands for "particularly dangerous situation".

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 could also be stormy, but it appears Monday is the biggest threat this next week. It's important that you are weather-aware with multiple ways to receive storm warnings from the National Weather Service especially if you're in or near any of the higher probability storm areas. It looks like April weather is about to go out with a bang.
