Walgreens just issued an emergency bulletin that they are removing 40,000 bottles of nasal spray off of store shelves due to a nasty contamination issue.

I first saw this report shared by Cheapism which says that the FDA has a product recall on Walgreens nasal spray. The FDA bulletin issued out of Deerfield, Illinois says that there are 41,328 bottles of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray WITH XYLITOL in the 1.5 oz (45mL) bottles has been recalled.

What is the reason for this Illinois Walgreens nasal spray recall?

The FDA bulletin says it's because of "Microbial contamination of a non-sterile product - microorganism found to be pseudomonas lactis". That's a type of bacteria that is sometimes found in raw milk which can lead to spoilage. The lot codes you need to look for to see if you have the affected nasal spray are "Lot#: 71409, Expires: 02/28/2027; 71861, Expires: 08/31/2027".

If you have the recalled nasal spray, you can return them to any Walgreens location in Illinois for a refund or dispose of them. This type of contamination is only dangerous to those who have serious respiratory problems and/or weakened immune systems.
