Illinois Plant to be Liquidated – 123 Will Lose Jobs in 2025

2024 isn't over yet, but 2025 is already looking for challenging already for hundreds of Illinois workers just learned their jobs will be eliminated after a plant is liquidated and closed.

I just saw this WARN notice shared on Illinois Work Net which broke the news that Hyzon Motors, Inc will be laying off 123 workers. This is the Hyzon plant located at 599 S Schmidt Road in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

I found further confirmation of what's happening with this mass layoff as Trucking Dive said that the company is closing the plant in Illinois and also has layoffs approved for their Troy, Michigan facility.

What is Hyzon Motors and why are they closing their Illinois plant?

The Hyzon Motors corporate site says it "builds high-performance hydrogen fuel cell systems that provide zero-emission power". Trucking Dive quoted a filing with federal agencies saying "“To date, no viable strategic alternatives are available to the Company”.

The WARN notice says the 123 Bolingbrook, Illinois workers will be laid off effective February 18, 2025.
