Spring used to be known as Tornado season, but tornadoes can occur during all 12 months of the year. Most tornadoes do develop during the spring and summer months, and as a result, the Emergency Alert System will hold a state-wide Tornado Warning Test at 10 a.m. CST Tuesday (tomorrow) in both Missouri and Illinois. The same test will be held on March 28th at 10 a.m. in Iowa.

According to the website www.ustornadoes.com, the United States sees over 12-hundred tornadoes a year. From the years 1991 through 2015, the U.S. averaged 1224 tornadoes a year with Texas leading all states with an average of 147 per year.

Illinois averaged 54, Iowa 49 and Missouri 47 tornadoes.  All of those tri-states are in the top 10 listing of most tornadoes along with Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, Colorado and Alabama during that time period.
