We're all still a month and a half away from the official start of summer, but it would be a good idea for you to prepare yourself early as Illinois will experience scorching heat sooner rather than later.

Illinois has already has had tastes of summer temperatures with upper 70's and low 80's, but expect that to go next level over the next few weeks. The "Omega Block" of low pressure that's been spinning over Illinois and keeping conditions cool is giving way and the next pattern shows that the heat is about to be on.

Here's the 6 to 10 day temperature forecast from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center. This is the percentage chance that an area will experience above average temperature. Pay special attention to the northern half of Illinois.

I saw a new video from internet weather celebrity Ryan Hall today that mentioned much of the Midwest and even parts of Canada were about to see the beginning of possible record-setting temperatures.

I checked the forecasts for the next week for several Illinois places like Chicago and Quincy. Neither location will see blazing temperatures through the middle of next week. But, by the weekend of May 17 and May 18, expect to see temperatures begin to rise and possibly severe storms begin to develop again, too.

We're still quite a ways out from this possible heat wave and a lot can and will change between now and then. I think it's fairly safe to say that the end of May will be much hotter than the first half of the month has been, but summer's just around the corner so that's to be expected.
