62 in Illinois Just Found Out Their Jobs are Gone at End of Year
It's becoming an all-too common headline during the holidays. Another Illinois company has just informed 62 people that they will no longer have jobs at the end of the year.
My first question is why do Illinois companies tend to layoff the most workers in December? Tech Crunch says that this is when many companies are trying to make their bottom line look healthier before they report financial results to investors. That's obviously not the only reason, but that's why many businesses make these cuts at the end of the year.
According to the Illinois Worknet Center, a WARN notice was provided to the state of Illinois by The Roomplace which is a distribution center in Romeoville, Illinois. According to the documents provided, 62 workers there will lose their jobs on December 31, 2024. The details page says it's due to a plant closure.
The Google description of this Illinois location says its purpose is being a "Home-furniture showroom selling beds, sofas, chairs & tables, dining sets & accent accessories."
The WARN notice says that workers were notified earlier this week on December 10, 2024. Let's hope these displaced workers find a good place to land and have even better opportunities elsewhere in 2025.
