Nearly all hope was lost for an Illinois clinic and food pantry as they had announced official plans to close. Now, almost miraculously, they've announced they will be able to keep the doors of their facilities open thanks to help in the 11th hour.

I saw this WARN notice submitted to the state of Illinois on the Work Net website. It said that Heartland Alliance Health would need to lay off 113 of their workers and close down their clinic and food pantry locations at the end of February.

Help comes when you least expect it

CBS News is now reporting that Heartland has reversed their decision to close thanks to help from a Cook County Commissioner. Stanley Moore had heard about the clinic's plan to shut down and got them together with the company OneHealth which has now provided them a multi-million dollar grant which will enable them to keep going.

This great news means the clinic and the food pantries can stay open in a part of Chicago that needs them most. It's estimated that more than 8,000 in that Illinois community relied on the help they give. Fortunately, that will remain true for the foreseeable thanks to a hand up at the last minute.
