Illinois Lottery's Shows Billion Dollar Prize is Still Unclaimed

I've noticed something odd ever since the Illinois Lottery announced there was a billion dollar winner drawn from Quincy. As of this moment, the prize is showing that it's still officially unclaimed. Why?

Let's get some facts out of the way. The Illinois Lottery allows winners to remain anonymous. That's true. However, the fact that the identity of the billion dollar winner from August 12, 2026 doesn't have to be revealed would not mean that the prize would still show as "unclaimed" on the official Illinois Lottery Unclaimed Prizes site. I can't find anyone that will give me a definitive answer so I can only speculate. Is a billion dollar prize more complicated to claim that a regular lottery win? Sure, that's likely. Anyone winning a humongous sum like this would want to get legal and accounting help to deal with this mammoth sum. Maybe that's what's going on. Is there an eligibility issue? I have no information that's the case, but it's certainly a possibility. No one is releasing any official statements right now so I'm just asking the question about why this remarkable Illinois Lottery billion dollar prize remains unclaimed officially. There's also the possibility that whoever is responsible for the Illinois Lottery's site hasn't removed the information yet.
