Unclaimed $150K Lottery Prize at Illinois Gas Station

I think it's safe to say that most gas station stops are rather uneventful. A few days ago in a small Illinois town, one convenience store moment wasn't typical at all as a mystery person won $150,000, but left without claiming their prize.

According to the Illinois Lottery's Unclaimed Prizes site, someone stopped by this gas station on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 and picked up a Lucky Day Lotto ticket and - well, they had a very lucky day with a prize of $150,001.

While no one can afford to retire on just over $150,000, that would go a long way toward lessening if not removing debt or at least be great for a long European vacation. The problem is no one has stepped forward to claim it as of the date of this writing. The good news is the Illinois Lottery allows one full year for prizes to be claimed, so there's plenty of time. However, if that ticket is just lying around somewhere with someone not knowing it's a winner, there's a danger it will be lost.
