The latest scam reported to HPD involves a caller stating they are with the Hannibal Treasury and the person will receive grant money that does not have to be paid back.

Police say this is just the latest in a series of phone scams, with callers claiming to be from agencies from the IRS and police departments to animal shelters and fund raising organizations for children and veterans.

Hannibal Police remind you to never give out personal information on the phone. If you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam, contact your local law enforcement agency.
