The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Fall Pickleball leagues begin soon, with a night for competitive and a night for leisure players.

Games will be Tuesdays August 30 through October 4 for competitive league, with a tournament on October 11. The "Leisure" division will be held on Thursdays from September 1 through October 6 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

Pickleball has been very popular in Hannibal as evidenced with leagues at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center and outdoor courts being installed at the Norfolk & Southern Multi-sports Complex.

Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net with a paddle and a plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball.

The cost of the league is $35 per team. Teams will play a total of three games or 45 minutes. Teams must be registered by August 23. Registration is available at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation office at City Hall at 320 Broadway. More information is available by calling 221-0154.

Pickleball equipment and courts are available for play at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, which now has summer hours of 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays. Winter hours at the Admiral Coontz Recreation will begin September 6.
