Hannibal Named Missouri’s Best Small Town for a Weekend Getaway

I spent all of my formative years in Hannibal, Missouri, but please don't hold that against my hometown. That's why I'm thrilled to be the messenger that little ole Hannibal was just selected as the best small town in Missouri for a weekend getaway.

I have many longtime friends who still call Hannibal home and I'm guessing more than a few of them are probably laughing at this idea, but the reasons for Hannibal being chosen for this honor are still valid. They say that Hannibal maintaining the historical Mark Twain places and the many different types of things to do are why it's a great weekend option if you don't want to go to one of the bigger Missouri cities. Mark Twain Cave, Rockcliffe Mansion, Mark Twain Riverboat and the many Hannibal parks like Huckleberry and Riverview can all be explored in a weekend and that's not even counting the afternoon that can be lost browsing through the many downtown Hannibal stores. If you like weekend shopping, Hannibal will not disappoint you.

I've learned the hard way over the years that it's easy to overlook how great your town is when you grew up there. Once you live somewhere else, you realize that you had someplace special and took it for granted. I think it's great that a national site is giving Hannibal some well-deserved recognition. It's not perfect because no town is, but it really does have a lot of entertaining things to do. There are worse things you could do with your weekend than Hannibal.
