Batten down the hatches as Missouri is set to have multiple rounds of severe weather on Thursday that is expected to bring golf ball-size hail and 70 mph winds. It's possible storms could bring tornadoes, too.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri updated its severe storm outlook for Thursday and now says it's likely many areas in Missouri will see big hail and strong winds and possibly tornadic activity.

Ryan Hall and other internet weather experts are also warning that this could be some strong storm development as the system makes its way across Missouri and the rest of the Midwest on Thursday.

The timing of severe weather will likely come in two waves. While some parts of Missouri and Illinois will see a few pop up storms Thursday afternoon, it's the early evening that seems most likely at this point to see the large hail and up to 70 mph winds happen.

This is a typical summer day in Missouri and Illinois where it's good to be extra aware that severe storm development is possible and to be prepared to take action if weather warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.
