What's the harm in having a garage sale? For one Missouri place, plenty is the answer as this one city has some of the harshest garage sale laws in America.

I will confess that I am not a fan of garage sales. The very few I've hosted in my life in Missouri there were people knocking on my garage door at 5:50am wondering why I hadn't opened for business yet. Shudder. I'm not judging. It's a way to save money and get stuff you need for your family. I get it. I'm just not a fan of the experience.

It would appear that University City, Missouri is not a fan of garage sales either. You should see the city ordinances they have in place to make having garage sales a hassle. E-Code 360 lists the following city ordinances in University City, Missouri:

Section 215.2330 - Yard or Garage Sales — Restrictions.
A. It is unlawful for any person or persons to offer for sale household goods in a "yard" or "garage" sale in an area in front of the front building line of the premises in which such person or persons reside.
B. It is unlawful for any person or persons to offer for sale household goods in a "yard" or "garage" sale in excess of two (2) days during any calendar year.

I'll translate all the lawyer speak. You can't have a garage sale in front of your home (only the backyard) and you can't do it more than twice per year. Otherwise the University City, Missouri garage sale police will rain down fury on your head.
