Southern Illinois Plant Closure Means 110 Will Be Out of Work
I had hoped we'd seen the last of a round of layoffs in Illinois for this week, but I was sadly wrong. Another plant in Illinois, this time in the southern half of the state, has notified Illinois of its closure and the resulting layoff of 110.
The Illinois Work Net site has unfortunately been a busy place this week with numerous companies announcing changes and/or layoffs. The latest is from a manufacturing facility in southern Illinois in Freeburg. The reason given is "plant closure" according to the WARN notice given to the state.
Freeburg, Illinois is located just to the southeast of the St. Louis area. According to the address given, this is the facility that will be closing according to the report. The date of first layoffs are shown to be as of September 1, 2025.
It is not known if those affected by this layoff will be given the chance to transfer to one of Hubbells other locations. While these WARN notices normally mean that a worker is being let go, it's also possible that it's simply a company restructuring and those laid off will be transferred to different positions. For the sake of all of those in Illinois who work at this facility, let's hope that is the case.
