The US Marshals have recently completed an elaborate arrest that involved an international fugitive who was in the middle of training exercises at a Missouri Army base.

This sounds like something that you'd find in a Tom Clancy spy novel, but it's a real operation that was just completed by the US Marshals. According to a press release that the US Marshals just shared, there was an international fugitive wanted in Poland that was discovered at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. They say that Marcin Pióro is the CEO for a Polish financial services platform Cinkciarz.pl/Conotoxia. The Marshals say that there was "an Interpol red notice and wanted by Polish authorities for large-scale fraud and money laundering offenses tied to losses exceeding approximately 125 million PLN (over $30 million USD)".

The problem is that Marcin Pióro was taking part in military exercises at Fort Leonard Wood so the US Marshals had to coordinate with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division to make sure that he was apprehended without endangering the military operations or the troops. Fortunately, they report that he was taking into custody without incident.

“This fugitive investigation is a testament to the commitment the U.S. Marshals Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force in the Western District of Missouri has for finding, apprehending, and bringing to justice violent fugitives,” said Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Deaton. “Our Deputies and support staff have tirelessly collaborated to locate and apprehend Pioro. Today’s arrest was a strong symbolic gesture of this commitment.”

The logistics of this type of operation are staggering. It was a combined effort by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Western District of Missouri-Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force (MVFTF)-Springfield Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Missouri-Springfield Office, Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division-Mid Central Field Office, USMS Office of International Operations (OIO) and USMS District of Arizona-Phoenix Office.
