The Super Bowl is this weekend. If you needed an excuse to indulge in the "not so healthy", here it is.

Some will order pizzas. Some will order (or make) wings. I like to keep things simple. Chips and dip (and plenty of "beverage" to wash it down). Here are a couple of recipes  for quick and easy (and tasty) dips to prepare for your Super gathering.

California Onion Dip

This is an incredibly easy dip to make, but the taste is out of this world. Take a 1 pint container of sour cream and one package of Lipton Onion Soup mix. Mix together and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. That's it (too easy, right?).  I prefer to dip Ruffles brand chips in this dip, or you can use Wavy Lays if you want something more sturdy.

Chili Cheese Dip

This dip involves a little bit of heating - either on the stove top or microwave. Take a 16oz package of Velveeta and a can of chili (preferably with no beans, but that is your choice). Cut the Velveeta into small cubes. Pour the can of chili over. Heat on stove top gently until cheese is melted, or use microwave to melt, stirring occasionally. I like to dip Tostito's brand Scoops. Yum!

Cream Cheese Salsa Dip

This dip takes a little bit of work (to break up the cream cheese), but is well worth it. Take a package of Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese and 1 jar of Red Cactus Sweet Salsa. Open the package of cream cheese and leave on the counter for about 20 minutes, to allow it to soften a bit. Then place in a bowl and pour the jar of salsa over it. I will use a knife to chop the cream cheese into smaller pieces, then I take a whisk and whip until there are no more cream cheese chunks. Cover and place in the fridge for two hours. This is another one I enjoy dipping Tostito's Scoops into. (I prefer to use the Red Cactus Medium Salsa, but if you have a more delicate palette, you can use the Mild).

BLT Dip

I believe I originally heard of this recipe in the early '90s on the Steve & DC Radio Show. 8oz mayonnaise, 8oz sour cream, one can of petite diced tomatoes (plain, non-seasoned, and drained well), and one package of real bacon pieces. Mix ingredients and place bowl in the fridge for two hours to chill. I am not a fan of Frito's, but they seem to go very well with this dip.

The idea is to keep it simple. You are more than welcome to embellish, but if you stick to the recipes above, you won't go wrong.
