East St. Louis Crackdown Leads to Multiple Felony Charges

There's a renewed focus from the Illinois State Police to suppress violent crime in the most problematic parts of the state. That includes East St. Louis where a sting operation over just two nights resulted in numerous felony charges.

The Illinois State Police Public Information Office just released details of what their task forces just completed in East St. Louis and neighboring Metro East communities on September 22 and 23, 2026. They targeted known high crime areas, violent offenders, and structured criminal groups using new technology and intelligence which resulted in the following criminal charges:

Total Criminal Charges 10
Felony Charges 8
Firearm Related Charges 7
Firearms Seized/Recovered 4
Stolen Vehicles Recovered 1

Their report said that Illinois State Police and specialized forces found numerous loaded firearms and black market drugs during traffic stop violations. This operation was a concerted effort involving ISP officers from Troops 3, 8, 9, and 10, Fatal 4 South, Zone 6 Firearms Investigations Unit, Public Safety Enforcement Group (PSEG), Crime Scene Services, and ISP Air Operations, assisted by ISP Southern Region Patrol and the Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement (SAVE) South.
