WARNING!  Before you eat that spoonful of flour, you should know you're taking your life in your own hands.

I guess it's been awhile since I had to replenish my flour supply.  I picked up a five-pound bag and saw that it had a warning label/disclaimer screaming at me, "Flour is raw.  Please cook fully before enjoying."

That was a real puzzler to me.  Is this just the flour maker's response to an over-litigious society?  Actually, the answer is yes.  Back in 2016, flour was the culprit in an e-coli outbreak.  Who'da thought, right?

But come on, who eats raw flour?  I do.  And I bet you do too, every time you dip your finger in for a big ol' scoop of cookie dough.

My sister-in-law is a food scientist.  She says most people know that the eggs in raw cookie dough could make them sick but most people don't realize the raw flour is just as likely to be the culprit.  Count me as one of the uninformed.  But when it comes to cookie dough, by golly I'm rolling the dice.  What's life without a little danger to spice it up?
