
Urgent Recall of Illinois Cattle Feed Due to Dangerous Nutrients
With so many farmers that manage cattle in Illinois and Missouri, you should know there is currently an urgent recall of feed that was manufactured in Illinois and distributed in both states that has dangerous levels of certain nutrients that could be harmful to the animals.
The FDA says in a new bulletin that ADM in Illinois is recalling a specific cattle feed due to elevated levels of copper and other nutrients that could be harmful to the animals. There are 33 lot numbers of feed that are affected by this recall. Here is an example of one of the labels from this feed recall that you should look for.
What can happen to your cattle in Illinois or Missouri if they consume this recalled feed?
The FDA says "gastroenteritis characterized by anorexia, signs of abdominal pain, depression, lethargy, diarrhea, and dehydration. Possible impacts of zinc deficiency include: decreases in feed intake, feed efficiency, and growth" are all possible side effects for this cattle feed that has levels below what is represented on the labels.
