Not only is it August already, but area schools will be opening their doors in the next couple of weeks.

Parents of school-age youngsters, especially those entering Kindergarten or high school, are reminded that they must have their children's immunizations up to date before they can begin classes.

In Marion County, the health department can help with getting kids current on their shots. If you're not sure just what vaccines your student needs, the health department has access to any Missouri health department immunizations. If previous shots were administered in the healthcare system, those records can be acquired and plugged into the health department's records.

For those coming to Missouri from out of state, health department officials advise not waiting until the last minute to make sure records are up to date. Waiting times on getting out of state records can vary depending on the state.
