Air Force Thunderbirds Flying in Missouri This Weekend
If you love airshows, one of the best will be taking place this Saturday and Sunday (May 1 and 2) in St. Joseph, Missouri. This year’s “Speed of Sound” airshow will be held this weekend at Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St. Joseph and will feature an appearance by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds.
The flying exhibitions will begin at noon with the Thunderbirds flying sometime after 3 pm both days. If you have never been to St. Joseph, Missouri the drive is just 210 miles across Missouri on U.S. Highway 36. For local airshow enthusiasts this weekend’s show is the closest show to Quincy that the Thunderbirds will perform this year.
This year the Thunderbirds can also be seen in St. Joseph, Missouri in Milwaukee on July 24 and 25. The Blue Angels will appear in airshows in Kansas City on July 3 and 4 and in Chicago on August 21 and 22.
Some of you may recall the Thunderbirds did attempt to do an airshow in Quincy in the 1980’s. Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds performance was abbreviated thanks to a huge thunderstorm that developed just as they started the airshow which forced them to cancel and fly to Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois.
Never was I so mad at Mother Nature than that day. Anyone else remember that?
