2 New Madrid Tremors Today Including 1 Under I-55 in Missouri
If you are interested in quake activity along the New Madrid Seismic Zone in Missouri, you might want to know there have been two tremors already today including one that happened nearly directly under interstate 55.
As I was checking the USGS earthquake page today, I noticed a sudden uptick of quake activity in southern Missouri. Neither was even close to being large enough to do any damage or even get noticed by many, but the location of one was interesting. Pay special attention to the one located right under I-55.
There was a 1.9 magnitude quake just to the east of the Missouri bootheel earlier this morning. The magnitude 2.0 shaker near Lilbourn, Missouri happened at 11:52am Tuesday morning, February 25.
If you zoom in closer, you can see the quake didn't strike directly under I-55, but just to the west closer to Lilbourn.
Not to make too big of a deal of two minor New Madrid quakes, but the locations of these tremors are interesting. Just be glad these were too small for anyone to really feel as you wouldn't want to be on I-55 if a major quake event happened.
