175-Year-Old Historic Missouri Mill Has Survived War and Flooding
It was built the same year the California Gold Rush started, yet after 175 years this historic Missouri mill is still going strong despite wars and devastating floods.

If you've never visited Jolly Mill near Pierce City, Missouri, you're quite literally missing out on tons of history. It was built in 1848. Here are some other events that happened in 1848:
- The California Gold Rush began
- The Chicago Board of Trade is founded
- The first medical school for women is built
- The Mexican-American war was wrapping up
- James K. Polk was President
- The Washington Monument is built
- Wyatt Earp is born
Jolly Mill has withstood the test of time (with some help).
The state of Missouri Parks website documents a flood that nearly destroyed this old mill. It happened December 27, 2015 when flood waters overwhelmed the bridge and left layers of mood and debris inside the mill. Volunteers came to the rescue and saved the historic buildings in the area.
One of the iconic Missouri sites near Jolly Mill is the waterfall that roars right next to it.
Jolly Mill is still operational today where grinding corn can still be observed inside.
If you are up for a road trip, Jolly Mill is one of the more affordable historical places you can visit in Missouri. It's just $5 per car and the mill itself is even available for weddings according to the official website.
After 175 years, you wish those walls could talk. It's witnessed wars and floods, but is still going strong.
