The Missouri Highway Patrol has issued a bulletin Thursday night alerting the public that an officer had been shot during an investigation in Troy, Missouri and a suspect was on the run.

The Missouri Highway Patrol shared this alert on their official Facebook page within the past hour.

The alert says that Thomas Varvera is 54 years old and 5'8" and fled on foot. It is not known if he is armed or not.

A blue alert is issued when an officer has been killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. There are no details if this was a Missouri Highway Patrol officer or Troy, Missouri Police Department officer. No names have been released as of this writing.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated as new information is released by the investigating authorities.

UPDATE: Fox 4 out of Kansas City is reporting that the deputy was shot in the arm and his injuries are not life-threatening.
