Stop me if you've heard this before. The worst place for crime in Missouri is St. Louis or Kansas City. For some types of crime, yes that's accurate, but not for this one. The worst place for property crime in the Show Me State isn't either of those metros. Oh, and it's not Springfield either in case you guessed that, too. Or, Columbia...or Jefferson City.

I was truly surprised when I came upon the numbers shared about this Missouri place by Neighborhood Scout. It's a breakdown (no property crime pun intended) of how likely you are to have your place damaged and/or robbed in Branson, Missouri of all places.

In Branson, Missouri, you have a 1 in 16 chance of being a victim of property crime. I'm amazed and not in a good way.

To Branson's credit, the violent crime rate is relatively low (although even 1 is too many). You only have a 1 in 216 chance of being harmed physically in Branson. Good news for you, Wayne Newton.

Why is property crime so bad in Branson, Missouri?

The question was asked on City Data and the short answer is the number of tourists drawn to that part of Missouri every year. 8 million visitors every year equals more crime coming to your town I suppose. It's still a startling number for a part of Missouri I've always associated with vacations and fun. Good thing I don't own a vacation home there I guess.
