Please don't take this personal if you live in any of these Missouri places, but there are some that are known for having a certain odor that can be hard to forget no matter how hard you try. Five places, in particular, are worse than the rest.

Having lived in Missouri a majority of my life and having traveled a lot, I've become an unofficial expert when it comes to the flavors that certain parts of the state specialize in. That's not always a good thing. Here are, according to the science of my nostrils, the 5 smelliest locations in Missouri and no one can change my mind about this.

HONORABLE MENTION: Uranus, Missouri...just because. Despite the name, Uranus really does smell like fudge, the good kind. Seriously.

I predict that there will be some objections from some that say I've left out some of the agricultural areas of Missouri that have distinct hog smells. That's a fair criticism, but I grew up in the country and those odors don't offend me like they do others and this is my list. I would also like to add my own positive smell memory in defense of the St. Louis metro area which is #1 on this list. One of my favorite smells in my life is the one inside of Busch Stadium when my seat is near where the hot dogs and burgers are cooked. That aroma automatically triggers some of my life's best memories.

I'd also like to add another personal positive Missouri smell memory. When I was a kid, my dad and I canoed the Eleven Point River twice and there's a distinct fish/water/trees/nature smell in that scenic part of Missouri I'll never forget and that's a great thing.
