What is Missouri’s Tallest Structure? It Isn’t a Building at All
When I think of tall structures in Missouri, I immediately think of big skyscrapers in St. Louis and Kansas City, but neither city has the tallest structure in the state. As a matter of fact, the tallest structure in Missouri isn't a building at all.
If you're guessing that the tallest structure in Missouri is the Gateway Arch, that's not correct either. It towers 630 feet over St. Louis, but it's less than a third as tall as the highest one in Missouri.
What is the tallest structure in Missouri?
I owe my newfound knowledge to A-Z Animals who shared details of the tallest structure in Missouri which is the KMOS-TV tower near Syracuse, Missouri. The website Wikimapia measures this ladder into the sky at an intimidating 2,000 feet.
Here are some other stunning details about this tower they shared. The KMOS-TV tower weighs 1 million pounds and is held together by 18,000 bolts. It was built from 2001 to 2002 and began operations in 2003. Also known as the Rohn Tower, it's the tallest structure in Missouri and there isn't even a close second.
I cannot imagine another structure topping this old TV tower anytime in the near future. Neither St. Louis or Kansas City is known for it's tall buildings and neither is Columbia or Jefferson City.
The only way this bad boy gets topped is if cell phone companies go insane in the future and decide they need to reach into the heavens to provide us with a workable signal that will avoid the river bluffs that make it a struggle now.
