Missouri Could Get Slammed by a Pre-Valentine’s Day Snow Event
It's too early to tell for certain, but you should be aware that current computer models show that Missouri could get hit hard by a pre-Valentine's Day snow event. Be wrong, computers. Be wrong.
There's an interesting new model run which shows Missouri is in for two things in the next week and a half: colder temperatures and possibly big precipitation. Travis Roberts just shared some unsettling model runs from the GFS which show that the days before Valentine's Day could be treacherous.
This is what the early morning hours of February 11 look like as of now. Snow begins to develop across southwestern Missouri.
As the day goes on, that system begins to greatly expand to the northeast. Notice the current model shows a dramatic ice event in the southern part of Missouri.
By that Tuesday night, a full-on winter storm could develop.
The GFS shows a continuation of this snow into Wednesday, February 12.
He cautions (and I will do the same) that it's too early to know if the precipitation will develop as the model currently shows. Let's see what the model runs show just prior to next weekend and wait to see if the National Weather Service agrees this is how the storm will develop.
Just know that winter isn't quite done with us yet. We know it will get a lot colder in the middle of February. Whether we also get a big dump of snow on or before Valentine's Day is a wait and see thing. Just be aware that it's a possibility.
