I don't fear many things in life, but I'll admit more than a bit of trepidation as I open my mailbox to see if a new Missouri utility bill is waiting for me. There are reports that your water bill in Missouri might be about to become even more frightening - again.

In fairness to my friends who work for Missouri utility companies, it's not all their fault. They have told me that their costs for water and electric are rising, too. Inevitably, that will be passed on to Missouri citizens like you and me.

I saw this new share on the Missouri sub-Reddit showing a letter from Missouri American Water explaining that they are requesting a 34% increase in water rates.

Why are so many Missouri utility companies requesting rate increases?

The United States Energy Information Administration (good luck saying that 3 times fast) says that these utility companies are seeing their costs rise so they want/need revenue to equal or exceed that increase they're seeing.

Those that are angry at these increases argue that the utility companies are already making a tidy profit and should give residents a break considering what inflation is doing to most individuals and families already.

It's a no-win situation, but the reality is that this Missouri water company will almost certainly get the rate increase they want and you and I will end up paying more. Brace yourself for the inevitable.
